ARTS, CULTURE, PRESERVATION OF THE CULTURAL HERITAGE

The Foundation supports education in aesthetic arts and music. In the field of arts and culture it sponsors both established institutions and individual artists or projects.  Objects of outstanding cultural significance with close historical ties to the city are supported as part of Frankfurt’s cultural heritage.

Arts, crafts and a way of life
Back in the 19th century, the members of the Polytechnische Gesellschaft decided to establish a museum of arts and crafts as a means of developing the crafts and promoting excellence.  Today the “Museum für Angewandte Kunst” is an institute held in high regard both in Germany and abroad. The historical villa (“Historische Villa Metzler”) housing parts of the museum was renovated and renewed using Foundation funds, allowing the link between arts, crafts and ways of life to be made tangible in historically authentic "period rooms".

Music
The sooner children get acquainted with a wide range of musical experiences, the more effective this experience may turn out to be. The Foundation supports various initiatives aiming at an early introduction of preschool and primary school children to music, such as “Sinfonik für Kindergärten” and “Schülerkonzerte mit Gerd Albrecht” at the Alte Oper Frankfurt.

Literature and Theatre
Frankfurt is a city closely related to literature: Not only has the city been the home to many famous authors and publishing houses, moreover the world’s most influential Book Fair is located here. The Foundation supports projects by the city’s well-established Literaturhaus as well as activities involving citizens interested in literature such as “Frankfurt liest ein Buch” (“Frankfurt reads a book”) or the “Metropolitan” festival. In the field of theatre, the Foundation supported an educational project at the English Theatre as well as productions involving lay actors or cooperations between theatres and schools (TUSCH).

Exhibitions
The Foundation has supported many exhibitions of various Frankfurt museums (historisches museum frankfurt, Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Jüdisches Museum, Weltkulturen Museum). The topic of the exhibitions needs to be closely related to the city’s cultural and intellectual heritage such as the “Frankfurter Schule” or the exhibition dedicated to Leopold Sonnemann, who contributed to the development of Frankfurt as a publisher, politician and benefactor.
