The Foundation supports citizens' education at all levels - from kindergarten through to post graduate studies. Its work divides into three main areas. Firstly, it supports new methodological thinking, e.g. in language and reading skills. Secondly, it focuses on key points in individuals' educational careers - for instance kindergarten and primary schools, or the transition from school to work. And thirdly, it fosters interaction between the spheres of education and science - by bringing together partners from different areas of the education system.
Education and responsibility
The "DeutschSommer" ("GermanSummer") scheme focuses on an important stage early in Frankfurters' educational careers. In the last weeks of the summer holiday before starting year 4 at school - the decisive year in Germany before the transition to secondary school - Frankfurt primary schoolchildren were offered three weeks of intensive and game-based tuition in German: a fun but productive use of the holiday. The project was made possible by an alliance of foundations and public partners.
The "Diesterweg-Scholarship" is build upon the "GermanSummer". It supports children with a high intellectual potential but lack of German language knowledge to master and successfully continue their secondary school education. But it also encourages parents to actively accompany their children’s education and engage in school and social activities. It is a joint project of the Stiftung Polytechnische Gesellschaft, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Ministry of Social Affairs of the federal state of Hessen and the city of Frankfurt, Germany.
Science and Technology
The Stiftung Polytechnische Gesellschaft aims at inspiring more young people for mathematics, science and technology. The programme starts in primary school with “Young scientists – who we are and what we do”. Students from the Goethe-University share their excitement for Physics with 3rd graders. Through grade 8 and 9 students develop their own scientific project at school within the “Junior Engeneer Academy”. They work together with engineers and scientists at the technical university and in industries. The students get the chance to learn more about these professions directly at the academic and industrial workplaces. We believe that this is an important way to help young people to manage their transition from school to university or work. At the academic level, we offer scholarships for outstanding young scientists in science, humanities and engineering.
